Picking a music video maker before a release is stressful, because every tool says it's the one and you only find the catch after you've paid. Updated October 2026: we checked the pricing and feature pages of eight tools ourselves, and this list only uses what those pages say. A Copenhagen Business School study published on 3 August 2026 found people engaged less with posts labelled as AI-generated, even when the content was identical [1]. So for every music video maker below, we say whether it generates AI footage and whether you can skip that part.

Short answer: CapCut or Canva to edit one video by hand, Specterr for full-length lyric and visualiser videos, and LYRC, Flowstage or MusicMinutes Clips when you need lots of short videos from one song.

Tool Best for Price as we checked it (October 2026) AI footage or real footage

Flowstage Batches of short posts in a set look Classic $10 a month; Artist $20 a month [7] Your footage or curated footage
Specterr Full-length lyric videos and visualisers Free £0 (watermark); Pro £13 a month billed yearly (£156) [8] Visualisers over image or video backgrounds

Prices change, and some sites show prices in your local currency, so check before you pay. The US tools here show UK visitors their prices in US dollars and charge in dollars, so your bank converts the amount (often with a small fee), and VAT may be added at checkout. Kapwing says its US dollar prices already include fees, taxes and exchange rates [4]. We haven't converted anything between currencies.

How we picked

This is our blog, so we've put our own tool in and judged it against the same criteria. We read each tool's own pricing and feature pages on 10 and 11 October 2026. If a page didn't say something, we left it out rather than guess. Here's what we looked for:

  • Beat sync built in, or cutting to the beat by hand.
  • Lyric tools: automatic transcription, or typing and timing the words yourself.
  • One video at a time, or a batch of videos from one song.
  • Vertical formats for TikTok, Reels and Shorts, plus full-length if you need it.
  • A price on a public page.
  • A free plan, and what it really includes (watermarks, length, quality).

We judged each one as a music video editor for artists, not for marketing teams. The order isn't a ranking. General editors come first, then the tools built for music.

The 8 best music video makers for artists

1. CapCut

CapCut is a full video editor. Its Auto Cut tool has a Beat Sync mode that trims and syncs your clips to a music track, and you can set it to cut on every beat or only the strong ones [9]. The help page says it works on desktop, isn't on CapCut Web yet, and may only appear in some regions during rollouts [9].

Free gives you free templates and basic editing. Pro is £21.99 a month in the UK, with AI credits and AI video generation, though CapCut says you see final pricing after signing in [2].

If you like making every cut yourself, start here. AI footage: optional, on Pro. Main limit: you still build each video on a timeline, one at a time.

2. Canva

If you already make your cover art in Canva, this is the easy pick. Its Beat Sync matches your clips to your soundtrack in one click [10]. The automatic sync needs Canva Pro. On the free plan you can show beat markers and line clips up yourself [10]. You download a watermark-free MP4 and can share it straight from the editor [10]. Canva Free includes 1.6M+ templates, 5GB of storage and up to 20 AI uses. Pro is £100 a year for one person [3].

AI footage: AI tools are there if you want them, but Beat Sync works on your own clips. Main limit: clips and audio are arranged on a timeline, so each video is still yours to build.

3. Kapwing

Kapwing is a music video maker online, so it runs in the browser, and it leans towards subtitles and repurposing. Its tools include a Subtitler, a Clip Maker that cuts short clips from one video, and Repurpose Studio for social-ready clips [4]. The free plan gives unlimited exports with a watermark, up to 4 minutes long, at 720p [4]. Pro is $16 a member a month billed yearly, or $24 monthly, with no watermark, 4K exports and projects up to 2 hours long [4].

AI footage: Kapwing lists a Video Generator and a B-Roll Generator [4], and you can ignore both. Main limit: it's a general editor, so it suits you best when you already know the edit you want.

4. VEED

VEED is another browser editor. For a lyric video you upload your music and video, then use the auto-subtitle generator or paste your lyrics with the subtitle or text tool [11]. Paid plans have unlimited auto subtitles and unlimited export length, while free exports run up to 10 minutes at 720p [5]. The plan table also lists Text Behind Person [5]. Creator is £10 a user a month billed yearly (£116), or £20 monthly [5].

AI footage: AI video generation uses credits, and it's optional. Main limit: the workflow on its pages is hands-on, one video at a time in the editor.

5. LYRC

LYRC is built for lyric videos. It transcribes your lyrics, finds the cuts and turns your clips into an editable lyric video [12]. It proposes beat cut markers you can listen through and nudge [13]. Rollout makes up to 30 videos at once and can auto-schedule them to Instagram [14]. Footage can be your own clips, 2,400+ stock clips or AI b-roll [12]. Creator is $29 a month, or $24 a month billed yearly ($288), with 30 exports a month [6].

AI footage: optional, as b-roll of you made from one selfie [12]. Main limit: each video is a 15 to 30 second part of your song [12], and every plan lists "up to 30s templates & generations" [6], so it isn't the tool for a full-length video.

6. Flowstage

Flowstage is built for short-form social posts, by artists, for artists [15]. You pick aesthetics (bundles of footage and lyric styles, yours or curated), clips auto-sync to song sections, and you can batch create up to 10 videos at once [15]. Scheduling puts posts in your TikTok drafts and texts you when one is ready [15]. Classic is $10 a month for 30 videos and 5 songs, and Artist is $20 for 100 videos [7]. We compared it with Clips in MusicMinutes vs Flowstage.

AI footage: none listed. Flowstage pitches itself against "AI generated slop" [15]. Main limit: its pricing page shows no free plan or yearly prices [7], and we didn't find a Spotify Canvas option.

7. Specterr

Specterr makes visualisers that react to your audio, plus lyric videos, and says your first video takes less than 5 minutes [17]. There are 18 visualiser presets [17]. For lyrics, you paste them in and set the timestamps on a beginner-friendly timeline [16]. Free gives you 1 video a day at 720p, up to 5 minutes, with a watermark, and videos expire after 10 days [8]. Pro is £13 a month billed yearly (£156) for 60 videos a year at 1080p 60fps, up to 10 minutes each [8].

For one full-length YouTube video, we'd look here first. AI footage: none listed; the visuals come from presets and your own images or video backgrounds. Main limit: 60 videos a year on Pro suits a few hero videos per release, not daily short-form.

8. MusicMinutes Clips

MusicMinutes Clips is our tool. It transcribes the whole song and builds up to 30 drafts in one run, snapped to whole bars so they loop, plus Spotify Canvas loops. Artist is £72 a year (£10 monthly) for 10 kept videos a month; Artist Pro is £180 a year (£20 monthly) for 100, with lyrics that pass behind you.

AI footage: none. Use your own videos, free stock, our curated collections (some on Artist Pro only) or a visualiser. We never generate footage with AI; Magic Hooks uses AI only to suggest hook lines. Main limit: no Clips on the free plan, no timeline editing, and full-length videos count within the allowance (1 a month on Artist, 4 on Artist Pro).

What to avoid

Spending a week on one hero video. One polished video is one go at finding the moment people stop scrolling for. Several decent versions, from different parts of the song, tell you far more.

A short cap when you need full-length. If you want a full lyric video for YouTube, check the length limit first. LYRC lists up to 30 seconds on every plan [6], Kapwing Free stops at 4 minutes [4] and Specterr Free at 5 [8].

Watermarked free exports for release content. Kapwing Free and Specterr Free put a watermark on your videos [4][8], and Specterr's free videos expire after 10 days [8]. That's fine for testing an idea. It isn't what you want on release day.

AI footage on your most emotional song. AI generation is a real creative choice, and some artists do great things with it. Just know the Copenhagen Business School study found the drop in engagement for AI-labelled posts was strongest for emotionally driven content [1]. For a heartfelt track, footage of you may carry it better.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the best free music video maker?

It depends on what you're making. CapCut Free has free templates and basic editing [2]. Canva Free lets you show beat markers and sync clips by hand, with 5GB of storage [3][10]. Kapwing Free exports up to 4 minutes at 720p with a watermark [4]. Specterr Free makes 1 video a day, watermarked, and it expires after 10 days [8].

Can I make a music video without AI?

Yes. Every tool on this list works with your own footage, and the AI features are optional where they exist. Flowstage, Specterr and MusicMinutes Clips don't list AI footage at all.

Which music video maker is best for TikTok?

If you want to hand-craft one edit, CapCut's Auto Cut is pitched at fast, rhythm-driven TikTok edits [9]. If you want lots of short videos from one song, LYRC, Flowstage and Clips are built for batches. LYRC sizes its videos for Reels, TikTok and Shorts [12].

How many videos should I make per song?

There's no magic number. It depends on how many strong moments the song has and how much time you've got. We wrote about making lots in one go in Burnt out on content? Make 30 videos for one song in one sitting.
